Fiduciary responsibility for personal representatives of estates

On Behalf of | Dec 22, 2014 | Estate Administration

In our last post, we covered some of the people who play a part in the estate process after you pass away. One of those people was the personal representative, which is known as an executor in some places. In Florida, the personal representative’s job is to handle a lot of the behind-the-scenes tasks during the probate process. This can include paying taxes, handling taxes and distributing the items in the estate.

Being a personal representative is a very important job. For that reason, having someone responsible as your personal representative is vital. In addition to a personal representative, it might be wise to have someone who can help the personal representative, such as a trust company or attorney. While it is possible that some people might not need that extra help, knowing it is available might make things easier.

We understand that thinking about all this right now isn’t something that is on the top of your list of fun things to do. We also know that there is a chance your personal representative will still be working through losing you when it is time to handle the estate. We can help to get things done by taking some of the stress off of your loved one by handling some of the fiduciary responsibilities.

Nobody wants to have to deal with estate disputes. Ensuring that your wishes are conveyed in a clear manner is one way to avoid such disputes. It is important to help your loved ones who are left behind to clear up any estate matters by appointing a responsible personal representative who can help to move your estate forward without delay or issues.
